Two anti-reservation movement leaders  were held under the National Security Act.

Minister of Chemicals and Feritilisers Veerendra Patil said the government could still consider an out-of-court settlement with the Union Carbide Corporation (UCC) if it agreed to pay adequate compensation to the Bhopal gas victims. The minister said the government had filed a suit against the UCC in a New York court as the offer of compensation was “ridiculously low”.
