Cooley, Hogan Lovells sync $100 million Reliance-Meta AI joint venture
California-headquartered international law firm Cooley advised Reliance Industries Limited while Hogan Lovells represented Meta on the formation of a strategic joint venture to develop enterprise artificial intelligence solutions for Indian and select international markets, with an initial investment commitment of approximately $100 million (INR 855 crore).
The partnership combines Reliance’s digital infrastructure backbone with Meta’s open-source Llama models to deliver enterprise-grade AI solutions at affordable prices for Indian enterprises and small- and medium-sized businesses. Under the joint venture structure, Meta holds a 30 percent stake while Reliance maintains 70 percent ownership.
The collaboration aims to democratize AI technology by leveraging Meta’s Llama models to create tailored AI solutions for specific business needs across sales, marketing, IT, customer service, finance and other sectors. By integrating Meta’s advanced AI capabilities with Reliance’s established digital foundation, the joint venture seeks to scale high-performance models at significantly reduced costs.
Cooley’s transaction was led by lawyers Rishab Kumar, Tracy Rubin, Jenny Ge and Queenie Chen. Global antitrust counseling was provided by Stella Sarma and Athina Gaki.
Hogan Lovells’ deal team was led by Jane Ross, office managing partner of the Silicon Valley office and M&A partner, supported by partners John Brockland (IP – San Francisco) and Nicola Lemay (tax – Boston), senior associates Samantha Seiden (M&A – Los Angeles), Whei Hsueh (IP – San Francisco) and Chasse Osborn (tax – Boston), and associate Ryan Reshke (M&A – Silicon Valley).
The joint venture represents a significant step in expanding AI accessibility across the Indian enterprise market, positioning both companies to capitalize on the growing demand for artificial intelligence solutions in one of the world’s largest economies.
