Understanding Voter ID Corrections

The Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC), commonly known as the Voter ID card, is issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI). It is a vital identity document used for voting, identity verification, and as Proof of Identity/Address for various purposes. The ECI allows corrections to voter ID details through its National Voters' Service Portal (NVSP) and through the local Booth Level Officer (BLO).

Corrections to voter ID cards are processed through the ERO (Electoral Registration Officer) of your assembly constituency. Documents Required for Voter ID Correction

1. Form 8 — Application for correction to particulars entered in the electoral roll (available on NVSP portal and at BLO offices).
2. Identity Proof — Aadhaar card, PAN card, passport, or any government-issued photo ID with the correct name.
3. Address Proof — Aadhaar, electricity bill, water bill, ration card, bank passbook, or registered rent agreement.
4. Date of Birth Proof — Birth certificate, matriculation certificate, or school leaving certificate.
5. Passport-size Photographs — 2 recent colour photographs for photo update.
6. Old Voter ID Card — The original EPIC (if available) for reference.

Online Correction Through NVSP Portal

The Election Commission's NVSP portal (nvsp.in) is the primary online platform for voter ID corrections. Here is the step-by-step process:

1. Visit nvsp.in and click on 'Correction of Entries in Electoral Roll' (Form 8).
2. Log in using your mobile number and OTP, or create an account if you are a first-time user.
3. Select your state (West Bengal), district, and assembly constituency.
4. Enter your EPIC number (voter ID number). If you don't have it, you can search by name and other details.
5. In the correction form, fill in the details that need correction — name, address, date of birth, gender, relation name, etc.
6. Upload supporting documents for each correction: scanned copy of proof documents in PDF/JPEG format.
7. Preview the corrected details and submit the application.
8. Download the acknowledgment receipt with the application reference number.
9. The BLO and ERO will verify the corrections — they may visit your residence for field verification.

Offline Correction at BLO Office

In West Bengal, each polling booth has a designated Booth Level Officer (BLO) who handles voter registrations and corrections.
